Recycling in Japan . This article shows how the Japanese have come up with a new process for recycling plastics.
"...Their method is also much simpler to implement on a large scale since it eschews costly pressure chambers and wasteful energy inputs in favor of typical laboratory glassware."
When I visited El Salvador I was happy to see the common recycling logo on the bins in the airport. I have no idea how often the citizens are actually encouraged to recycle. However, store owners have a vested interest in keeping their "Coke" bottles. They customarily will pour the soda into a plastic baggie and give it to the customer with a straw. This is so they can return the glass bottles for the deposit.
