Where the Sidewalk Ends
There is a place where the sidewalk ends
And before the street begins,
And there the grass grows soft and white,
And there the sun burns crimson bright,
And there the moon-bird rests from his flight
To cool in the peppermint wind.
Let us leave this place where the smoke blows black
And the dark street winds and bends.
Past the pits where the asphalt flowers grow
We shall walk with a walk that is measured and slow,
And watch where the chalk-white arrows go
To the place where the sidewalk ends.
Yes we'll walk with a walk that is measured and slow,
And we'll go where the chalk-white arrows go,
For the children, they mark, and the children, they know
The place where the sidewalk ends.
~Shel Silverstein
I found the place in Parker, CO, where the sidewalk ends and remembered this poem. I wanted to share the moment. Shel Silverstein authored children's books of poems and I used to read them when I was in elementary school.

Help

lovely! :) Thanks for sharing!
wow there really is a place where it ends, and all this time, i thought it was a story :)
You're welcome, ladies.
It's almost as if that place where the sidewalk ends signifies our walk with nature, or our walk with our souls, in that place where no book can explain what will happen next.
Thanks for sharing that Shel Silverstein. I think we still have that book on our bookshelf, even though the kids have been gone for quite awhile. Love that picture….of the sidewalk actually ending…..I like what you just said that it's a place where no book can explain what will happen next.
Thanks Centria. It was a popular book! Yes, it's also like the place where routine existence ends and adventure begins; that's another way to put it. The children have a love of the unknown while adults have a fear of the unknown.
This is serendipity.
I was in Parker CO I think. Or there is a Parker in Aurora. Anyway, I was there studying about what animals meant from the Indians. There was a horse walking in the middle of Parker Road. I got out of my car and walked it back to its pasture.
I was having … a moment !!!
When I went home and looked up horse, the indian guide said it meant to remember your rear view mirror and cover your tracks.
I loved Shel when I was a kid too. Thanks for this pleasure moment.
~KES, there is a Parker Road that goes through Aurora and leads to the town of Parker. There is a horse pasture right at the side of the road before you get to the town of Parker. They give trail rides and summer horse camp there. It's next to the off leash dog park. I pass the horses on my way to work. In the summer they are staring at the bales of hay the workers haven't fed them yet. In the winter snow they are huddling together under their lean-to shelter.
If that wasn't your memory, then there are lots of individual horse owners that live next to Parker road, too.
So, since you know about animal sightings, what does it mean to see a fox carrying an egg? I saw one in Breckenridge a couple of weeks ago. I was too flabbergasted to even raise the camera from around my neck and take a picture. But I got a picture of it much later, when it was crossing the street.
The Fox is here
this website goes over what the fox symbolizes in different cultures

Because you liked it so much, KES, I decided to prepare the image I took of the fox. I didn't catch him with something in his mouth, though.
